Zone 0 questions Peninsula homeowners ask

Does Zone Zero apply to my Peninsula home?

If your parcel is in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, Zone Zero applies. All four Peninsula cities adopted updated CAL FIRE maps in 2025 and the maps include Very High zones. The contractor confirms your parcel's zone status during the free assessment, so you do not have to read the maps yourself.

What is the 0-5 foot zone?

Zone Zero is the first 5 feet around your home. Under AB 3074 it must be kept free of combustible material: mulch, dead vegetation, and wood fencing attached to the house.

My property is in the Portuguese Bend land movement area. Can you still help?

Yes, and please note it on the form. Land movement affects access, staging, and what kind of foundations or walls make sense, so the assessment accounts for the geology as well as the fire rules.

When are the deadlines?

Final regulations are expected late 2026. Phase 1 for existing homes lands around 2027 to 2028, and Phase 2 follows on your city's schedule with LA County Fire, up to 5 years after adoption. The full table is on our deadlines page.
